A recent Windows 11 update appears to be causing serious problems on some computers, according to a report from Windows Latest. The update is causing gaming crashes, login errors, display problems and system failures, among other issues.
Windows 11 patch KB5121003 was a mandatory update released on 11 August. It was the main security update for August of the operating system and, as such, fixed more than 400 vulnerabilities. However, it also appears to have introduced a series of bugs.
Problems have been especially notable in the gaming community. There has been an increase in reports of games closing unexpectedly since the update was installed. ARC Raiders and The Finals, both from Embark Games, appear to have been particularly affected. The update appears to have compromised compatibility with a specific driver.
Embark is working on a solution for its games, though it has not specified a timeframe. In the meantime, the company is advising users to open the Windows command prompt and disable the driver. This is detailed more extensively in a PC World report. It is also possible to remove the patch entirely, which can be done in the Update History settings. However, this would leave users exposed to the aforementioned 400 vulnerabilities.
Microsoft responded to the issue, although it has not yet announced a remediation plan. The company opened an investigation and is urging users to contact the Feedback Hub if they experience problems.
