A Los Angeles County court dismissed the child support lawsuit filed by Anamaria Goltes in California against Lakers player Luka Doncic, according to the New York Post. Judge Melissa C. Lyons issued the dismissal "without prejudice," which allows Goltes to file a new lawsuit in the future.
The dismissal comes after Goltes indicated her intention to resolve the conflict through a private agreement that would safeguard the welfare of their two daughters. However, shortly thereafter, the ex-partner moved the battle to Slovenia and began demanding a $50 million settlement, according to the New York Post.
Doncic's attorney, Laura Wasser, questioned from the outset whether California was the appropriate jurisdiction for the case and argued that Goltes had chosen the state for its reputation for awarding high amounts in child support. The defence also noted that the daughters have lived in Slovenia since May, an argument to challenge California courts' jurisdiction.
According to the New York Post, the claim in Slovenia would include $40 million for Goltes and $10 million for the two daughters, plus a modification of the custody arrangement that would reduce the days Doncic spends with the minors. The California dismissal represents a legal victory for Doncic, but the dispute over support and custody continues in another jurisdiction.
