Following the success of the Superman reboot and the television series Peacemaker and Creature Commandos, DC Studios' latest project under the direction and production of James Gunn is Lanterns, a new series that combines raw crime drama with Green Lantern comic book sensibility.
From Sunday, August 16, Lanterns will be available to watch on HBO or to stream on demand on HBO Max. The series premiere will air on Sunday, August 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes of Lanterns airing every Sunday until October 4. This season has eight episodes in total.
An HBO Max subscription is the best way to watch Lanterns online. The streaming service starts at $10.99 per month for the plan with advertising. HBO Max can also be obtained included with Hulu and Disney+ starting at $19.99 per month for all three services.
DirecTV offers a free five-day trial for new subscribers. Although HBO Max does not offer a free trial, there is an alternative. A subscription to DirecTV's "Premier" plan provides access to live television, local and cable channels, including HBO Max to watch Lanterns when it airs. Plans start at $129.99 the first month ($169.99 per month afterwards), while the streaming platform offers a free five-day trial.
Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, Lanterns follows new Green Lantern Corps recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as he is trained by veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler). The two investigate a murder case in the heart of America. The series also features performances by Kelly Macdonald, Laura Linney, Garret Dillahunt, Jason Ritter, Poorna Jagannathan and Nathan Fillion, among others.
