Pereira's hospital networks are adjusting following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook the region on 10 August. The director of San José Hospital in Pereira continues to assess damage in the affected areas of the institution to plan reconstruction, while organisations such as Mission Clown work in the paediatrics area to entertain children.
Outside hospitals, the situation is more complex. Health problems are mounting in makeshift camps where displaced people are living, limited by restricted access to water. The availability of basic services remains an immediate concern for local authorities.
