The earthquake on 10 August shook Colombia and left an impact beyond the physical. Unidentified bone remains emerged from a cemetery vault in Roldanillo, a municipality in Valle del Cauca, during the seismic movement.
The discovery reopens the wounds of the armed conflict that marked the country for decades. The remains, which had not come to light through any investigation or complaint from affected parties, appeared exposed by the earth movement.
Authorities are working to determine whether the bone remains belong to people who disappeared during the armed conflict that struck Colombia.
