A 7.4-magnitude earthquake sparked moments of panic at Hospital Universitario del Valle (HUV) in Cali. During the most critical moments of the tremor, an anaesthetist and her colleague remained with a patient who was undergoing surgery for a tumour, protecting him as the earthquake shook the hospital's facilities.
The doctor described her role during the emergency as that of a guardian, prioritising the patient's safety in the operating theatre while the hospital experienced widespread tension and panic.
